Concerning DESIGN CAKES
What does the cake taste like?
As it is your special event it is you who decides on the design, shape, colour, size and flavour of the cake. You are free to choose from a range of no fewer than 12 different flavours! To us the delicious taste is as important as the amazing look of the cake.
Can I have a cake with different flavours?
Oh yes, you can. If you opt for a cake with two tiers or more, each tier can have a flavour of its own.
What are the characters made of?
The icing is made of a special sugar paste and so are the characters. We prefer sugar paste to marzipan because it can be shaped and coloured wonderfully. All decorations and characters are hand-made and edible.
Can I keep the characters of the cake?
We often hear that the characters were not eaten but put in a special place, e.g. a glass cabinet. As they are made of sugar paste they do not tend to break and you can keep them as a souvenir for years.
How much is a design cake?
As we do not work with a catalogue of cakes but design each cake individually, the price is calculated individually as well. 20 cm in diameter is the minimum size of a cake we make. It goes without saying that the bigger the cake and the more modelling and decorating work there is the more the cake will cost. Thus the price level so far has ranged from 60 to more than 1000 Euro.
When can I get advice?
We may be able to talk about your cake in detail during normal opening hours (cf. imprint); in many cases, however, we recommend to make an appointment to ensure we are not getting disturbed.
How do I order?
If you know exactly what you want you may order by phone, fax or e-mail. If not, please get in touch with us for a personal consultation (see above). By paying a deposit you confirm your order.
How early should I order?
We can often carry out short-term orders. However, everything we do we do by hand and obviously capacities are limited. Ordering well in advance avoids disappointment and makes sure you get the delivery date you desire.
Do you ship your design cakes?
No, we do not because cakes tend to be damaged by careless handling. Many customers collect the cake themselves, others prefer to pay an additional fee to have the cake delivered by us. As far as wedding cakes are concerned, depending on size and design we often have to assemble them at the place of event anyway.
When at home, should I keep the cake in the refrigerator?
We recommend you keep it at a cool, dry place, but in no case in the fridge. (When taken out of the fridge the icing will get wet and lose its beautiful shape.)
